* Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis means: No muscle nourishment - in a direction away from the median plane - leading to hardening of tissue
* Only about 50% of those diagnosed with ALS survive for more than 3 years
* The major symptoms of ALS are muscle weakness and muscle atrophy
* No cure exist against ALS, only Riluzole and symptomatic treatment can extend the life-span of ALS patients
